Laughter CARE
IN RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE
Laughter Care is a world-leading initiative that brings clinical care and creative connection together to enhance the lives of aged care residents – especially those living with dementia or experiencing social isolation.
Delivered by trained Laughter Care Specialists, the program is person-centred, evidence-based, and aligned with the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards. Laughter Care is a premium wellbeing program that will support aged care providers to meet new compliance obligations while improving resident wellbeing, staff morale, and family satisfaction.
Laughter Care in Aged Care Structure
Our 3-hour Laughter Care visits, ideally delivered weekly, build trust and rapport with residents and each visit includes:
Pre-brief with staff to identify priority residents and/or any matters the Laughter Care Specialist needs to be aware of during their interactions. This briefing ensures the program is delivered to those residents who need it most
Resident interactions – predominately 1 on 1 with a Laughter Care Specialist, however there can also be group sessions within the structure of each session to be determined in consultation with the designated staff contact person at each home.
Debrief with staff to communicate any observations made by the Laughter Care Specialist during their interactions. Again, the intention is to maximise the ongoing benefits for your residents and your staff through open dialogue and communication.
Which residents do we recommend prioritising in your facility?
- Those experiencing cognitive or emotional challenges, including those living with dementia, low mood, or feelings of isolation
- Residents who are withdrawn, unsettled, or require high levels of attention
- Where connection is challenging – including those who are difficult for staff or families to engage with, or new to the facility
- Residents who would benefit from increased social, imaginative, or cognitive stimulation.
- The program as represented above can be adapted to meet the specific needs of each home. We encourage partners to discuss their specific facility needs with us.
- Trial visit – We can offer two trial visits, giving your team the opportunity to experience firsthand the impact Laughter Care Specialists can have with residents – and how moments of connection can positively shift the mood and atmosphere of the facility.
- Laughter Care visits are delivered on a fee-for-service basis.
